HMRC Error 9466 - Tax rate on loans to participators

Symptoms:

While submitting the CT600 return with the supplementary form CT600A, HMRC server may reject the submission with a HMRC validation message:

  • Error Number: 9466
  • Error Type: business
  • Error Text: If the loans to participator rate does not change in the accounting period of the return then Box A20 must equal Box A15 multiplied by the loans to participator rate for that period. Round down for fractions less than half a penny and round up for fractions of half a penny or greater

Cause:

In the Autumn budget 2021, HMRC have raised the tax rate on loans to participators from 32.5% to 33.75% from 06/04/2022. However, HMRC have not yet updated their servers with the revised rate. For any submissions made having the ‘date of loan taken’ as on or after 06/04/2022 in the supplementary form CT600A, HMRC servers will give the above error till they get updated with the revised rate.

Solution:

HMRC have informed us that the Corporation Tax online service will be updated to reflect this change by 30 June 2022. Therefore, once HMRC update their servers to reflect the revised rate, you can submit your return.
